Uncompressing Files and Folders

To uncompress a file or folder, you must extract it from the compression folder. The uncompressed file or folder is identical to the original version, before it was compressed.

  1. Open the folder that contains the compressed folder you want to decompress.
  2. Right-click the compressed folder. Choose Extract All from the menu that appears.
  3. The Extract Compressed (Zipped) Folders window appears. To extract the files to a location other than the default, press the Browse button.
  4. The Select a destination dialog box opens. Locate and select the folder to which you want to extract the compressed files.
  5. Press OK to close the Select a Destination dialog box.
  6. Press Extract. Windows 7 extracts the files and folders into the folder you specified.
