Welcome
Welcome to Windows 7 Administration. I am pleased you are joining us for this class. I want to take this opportunity to welcome you and to give you an overview of what to expect and what you need to do next. I am looking forward to this quarter with you.
Course Description
This course provides knowledge and skills to setup, configure, use, and support Windows 7 operating system. Course covers Windows 7 features including installing, upgrading, configuring and troubleshooting. Learn how to configure Windows security, network connectivity and subsystems. Additional topics include configuring/troubleshooting mobile computing and learning how to use Windows 7's built-in applications.
General Purpose
Upon completion, students will be able to:
- Install and upgrade Windows 7.
- Configure and troubleshoot post-installation system settings.
- Configure Windows 7 security features.
- Configure network connectivity.
- Configure applications included with Windows 7.
- Maintain and optimize systems that run Windows 7.
- Configure and troubleshoot mobile computing.
Requirements
- Access to a computer with an Internet connection
- E-mail address
- You must have access to the latest version of a browser such as Firefox, Chrome, Opera, Safari and IE 9.
- Bring a USB jump drive to save your work and to carry work from school to home.
Attendance and Participation
You are encouraged to contribute to the class discussion . For planning purposes, it is best to log on every day when possible, to avoid creating a backlog of material that can very quickly become overwhelming.
Expect to spend 8-10 hours per week reviewing online information, reading the textbook and working on assignments.
The end of the 7th week is the deadline for withdrawal with a "W". Please refer to the Schedule of Classes for the exact date. It is your responsibility to withdraw if desired; otherwise, the earned grade will be assigned for the quarter. See De Anza Academic and Administrative Calendar for the deadlines.
Scholarly Conduct
With the understanding of the principles discussed in Working Together above, you are expected to do your own work. The De Anza College Schedule, in the section titled "Academic Integrity (http://www.deanza.edu/studenthandbook/academic-integrity.html)," states that "The submission of work which is not the product of a student's personal effort, or work which in some way circumvents the given rules and regulations will not be tolerated." An infraction of Academic Integrity may result in a failing grade.
Assignments
The assignments will be graded online. You will do the quizzes and upload the lab assignments by logging in to Catalyst. The grades will be available in Catlayst (https://catalyst.deanza.edu/)
Late Work
Late work will be assigned a 10% per day penalty. Work submitted over two weeks late will earn a maximum of 10%.
Tests
There will be a midterm exam, and a final exam.
