Put your web page on the Internet

Your Internet server

voyager.deanza.edu will be your Internet server

Some of you have signed up to use the windows machines in the De Anza CIS lab. These machines are connected to our windows server, named puma.deanza.edu   We also have an Internet server, named voyager.deanza.edu   This web page is on voyager. You will put your pages on voyager. Because voyager is part of the Internet, everyone can see our pages.

Setup your voyager account

Every student must have their own voyager account.

Only set up your voyager account once. You may set it up from home. You may set it up at school. Either way, there is one account, which you can access from home or school.

Upload your page to voyager

We use the file transfer protocol, ftp, to upload pages to voyager.
There are many programs that can be used to do the ftp upload.
A few of them include:

  • Many commercial ftp programs
  • Fire ftp, for use with Firefox (in beta test, as of December 2005)
  • MS Windows folder command
  • WS_FTP95 LE (old, no longer supported, but it still works well)
  • OS/2 command line ftp, which is part of MS Windows
  • Internet Explorer, drag and drop capability

Instructions are provided to allow you to use the OS/2 command line ftp or Internet Explorer from home.
Instructions are provided to allow you to use WS_FTP95 LE from school.
You may use any one you like.

Look at your page on the Internet

Connect to the Internet. Use your browser to look at your pages
