Disaster Recovery and Troubleshooting
General Principles of Troubleshooting
- Troubleshooting is a process that systematically diagnoses and analyzes a situation to understand why it differs from a desired situation.
- Once the problem is understood, potential solutions can be suggested and investigated.
- When performing troubleshooting use the following process:
- Gather information about the problem, such as the errors reported by users.
- Identify potential solutions to the problem.
- Prioritize potential solutions based on how likely they are to f x the problem and how easy they are to implement.
- Implement the best potential solution and verify whether the problem is resolved.
- If the problem is not resolved, undo the f x you implemented in step 4. Then use the new information you have learned and return to step 2.
- If the problem is solved, document the resolution for future reference.
