You can include a preconfigured installation of Windows 7 and applications.

Maintaining an image requires you to apply software updates to those images.

The Development Image Servicing and Management (DISM) toolis also included in the Windows AIK for Windows 7. The primary benefit of DISM is its ability to modify the contents of an image hosted within a .wim file. This is referred to as offline servicing.

DISM is a command-line tool and includes a rich set of switches.

Some common scenarios for using DISM:

  • Add device drivers
  • Apply Windows updates
  • Enable Windows features
